Grievance Procedure

This procedure provides a way to address problems or concerns at work if informal dialogue with a manager has failed.

Formal Grievance

  • Submission: If the matter is serious or you wish to raise it formally, set out the grievance in writing to your manager. Stick to the facts and avoid abusive language.
  • Manager Conflict: If the grievance is against your manager, speak to another manager.
  • Hearing: Your manager will call you to a meeting, normally within 7 days. You have the right to be accompanied by a colleague or trade union representative.
  • Decision: The manager will give a decision in writing, normally within 24 hours after the meeting.

Appeal

  • If unhappy with the manager's decision, you should notify them to appeal.
  • You will be invited to an appeal meeting, normally within 7 days, heard by a senior manager/director or independent third party. You have the right to be accompanied.
  • The decision will be given, normally within 24 hours, and is final.
