Homeworking Principles and Approval
Homeworking is understood to mean working from home on a long-term, occasional, or temporary basis. Employees conducting their job from home must maintain the same contractual obligations, such as core working hours, as their on-site colleagues3.
Conditions for Approval
The company will seek to accommodate homeworking where appropriate, recognising that it can be beneficial for individuals. However, the company is under no obligation to permit a period of homeworking, even if it has agreed to it in the past.
Homeworking will be granted only if the company is satisfied that:
- The needs of the business can continue to be met.
- The arrangement is cost-effective.
- There is no significant increase in workload on colleagues.
- The work done by the employee must be capable of being done from home.
Requests are considered on their own merits. If an application is rejected, the reasons will be issued to the employee in writing, and the employee may appeal the decision. Where approved, arrangements and duration will be agreed on an individual basis and reviewed regularly.
